Today we are excited to have urban fantasy writer Amy Brock McNew with us! Amy doesn’t just write speculative fiction, she lives and breathes it. She enthusiastically explores the strange, the supernatural, and the wonderfully weird. She pours her guts onto the pages she writes, honestly and brutally revealing herself in the process. Nothing is off limits. Her favorite question is “what if?” and she believes fiction can be truer than our sheltered and controlled realities. This wife and mom is a lover of music, chocolate, the beach, and cherry vanilla Coke. Her home is a zoo, filled with teenagers–both hers and those …
The Dark Side of Fiction
I write fiction, and I love it. Fantasy, sci-fi, and my latest book is a dark fantasy paranormal, so it kisses the border of horror. If I’m being honest, it’s not a book I thought I’d write. It includes things like ghosts and divination and temptation. Did you catch that “D” word? Divination is one of those really bad, frowned-upon sins. I wondered how Christian readers would react to something like this in a novel written by another Christian. I mean, my father-in-law is a pastor for crying out loud. It begs the question: should Christians be putting evil things …

Between the Lines: Monster Hunter Memoirs: Grunge by Larry Correia
Larry Correia started a blockbuster series with the debut of Monster Hunters International. He hooks you from the first scene, and the blood-and-guts-soaked adventure does not let up. The series premise is simple: the U.S. government maintains a secret fund from which it pays bounties to private contractors in exchange for their elimination of monster threats. Throw in all manner of beasts and—to quote Neo from The Matrix—“Guns. Lots of guns,” and you’ve got action-packed stories of heroes triumphing over evil. The appeal to readers, especially men, is obvious. These monsters aren’t defeated by supernatural means or by prayer. Guns …

Between the Lines: Leviathans of Jupiter by Ben Bova
There’s a reason Ben Bova has won six Hugo Awards. The man is a phenomenal writer of science-fiction. Not only does he take hard sci-fi concepts and make them accessible, but he populates his stories with memorable characters. Admittedly, I’m late to the party when it comes to appreciating his work. I’ve only read a handful of his books, and even those, only in the past few years. That said, the greatest measure I have for a novel is whether I will find it a home on my bookshelf and read it again, at least once. Leviathans of Jupiter fits …

Enclave is Back in Business
Hey everyone! As you’ve probably realized, Enclave has been quiet for the last couple of months. Unfortunately the publisher which bought Enclave a year ago (Gilead) encountered a speed bump and had to temporarily put a hold on all publication efforts. The good news is Gilead (and Enclave) now has a new partner in publishing, which means we are back in business. Gilead is now in a cooperative venture with Kregel Publications. Gilead will remain its own entity in seeking and publishing Christian fiction, but Kregel will help in the distribution of that fiction. Enclave, as an imprint of Gilead, …
