Interview with Kathy Tyers
Please welcome Kathy Tyers! Kathy’s first science fiction novel was published in 1987, and she has been at it ever since. She has been accused on two counts of writing Star Wars novels (and pleads guilty on both counts), but she also likes being known for her original “Firebird” series. Volumes 1-3–Firebird, Fusion Fire, and Crown of Fire–are also published as The Annotated Firebird. Volume 4 is Wind and Shadow, and the award-winning, messianic Daystar rounds out the series. Kathy lives in southwestern Montana with her husband. Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they …
Interview with Steve Rzasa
Hi everyone! Today we are interviewing our own Steve Rzasa. Steve was born and raised in South Jersey, and fell in love with books—especially science fiction novels and historical volumes—at an early age. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University’s College of Communications in 2000, and then spent seven years as a reporter and assistant editor at weekly newspapers in Maine. Steve moved to Wyoming in 2007 to become the editor of a weekly newspaper there, and now works at the local library. He and his wife Carrie have two boys and live in Buffalo, Wyoming. Steve …
Interview with DJ Edwardson
Join me in welcoming DJ Edwardson! DJ Edwardson’s favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. He likes to think that authors who use their initials are better writers but he can’t actually prove it. Although much of what he writes falls in the science fiction and fantasy genres, he likes to call his work “imaginative” fiction and often incorporates elements from multiple genres. And now onto our interview! 1) When did you realize you wanted to become a writer? Well, I flirted with the idea for a long time. After college I kicked around the possibility in my …

Interview with Rachel Starr Thomson
Today we have the privilege of interviewing speculative writer Rachel Starr Thomson. Rachel is a writer, indie publisher, and editor. She’s the author of the Seventh World Trilogy, The Oneness Cycle, and other books published by Little Dozen Press. Without further ado, please welcome Rachel! 1) When did you realize you wanted to become a writer? I have this memory of being maybe seven or eight years old—maybe younger—drawing pictures on scrap pieces of paper and writing stories to go with them. And then I would imagine I was on TV giving interviews about this or that book. I …
We are all Zombies
I watched an episode of The Walking Dead the other night. The story was absolutely intriguing: what would the world be like if a disease turned almost everyone into zombies? The problem was, I couldn’t stomach the head shots or the body parts trailing behind the corpses. So I only ended up watching one and a half episodes. But it made me start thinking: All of us are zombies. Huh? I work with junior high boys and we always end up talking about interesting things (surprising, right?). One night we talked about this verse: “And you were dead in your …
